New Skills Consulting Helps Tackle the STEM Skills Shortage
New Skills Consulting has been appointed by One North East to provide the Programme Co-ordination Unit for the delivery of its Regional STEM Skills Strategy and Programme. This £2.54m Single Programme funded strategy aims to increase the number of young people studying subjects with a science, technology, engineering or maths base, and to encourage them to follow careers in these sectors.
Working with The KSA Partnership we are managing the programme on behalf of One North East - supporting delivery of STEM education activities, developing a web portal, supporting the STEM North East Partnership Board and delivering a forward strategy. We have also secured the services of Dr Sam Pearson, the regional co-ordinator for the national STEMNET programme, which links more than 19,000 professionals across the country with local schools to promote the need for STEM skills. Dr Pearson will work with us throughout the project to provide ongoing support and expert advice.
Pooling our complementary skills and extensive combined knowledge of the STEM agenda meant that we were able to offer One North East an effective and cost-efficient solution that will ensure the sustainability of the STEM Skills Programme and help the North East to develop and retain its STEM talent.
The assignment will be managed by New Skills' Director of Programme Management, Helen Joicey, who is delighted to be leading the project: "Not only is STEM a significant and very welcome addition to our growing Programme Management portfolio, it is also an exciting opportunity for us to support the future competitiveness of the North East."
