Project: Labour Market Demand Analysis
Client: TyneMet College
TyneMet is one of the largest FE and HE colleges in Tyne & Wear, delivering a range of provision to around 9,000 learners per year. As part of its three year strategic planning process, the College wanted to understand more about labour market demand in the Tyne and Wear economy. We undertook a comprehensive labour market review and produced a detailed report on the opportunities available in the local and regional labour market, highlighting the current and future skills needs of employers. Our report was used by the College to re-shape its curriculum and to enhance its provision in response to the needs of the market.
Project: Engagement in 14-19 Education and Training
Client: One North East and LSC North East
The skills of young people leaving education are key to the long-term health of our economy. Developing the right skills for work involves establishing links with employers at an early age, a vital component of the 14-19 agenda. Working with Northern Education Ltd, we completed an audit of employer engagement in 14-19 education and training to identify good practice in joint working between employers and education organisations, barriers to engagement and opportunities to improve collaboration. Our findings have been used to encourage more employers in the North East to create engaging and relevant work experience opportunities for young people.
Project: Entrepreneur Scholarship Programme Action Research
Client: One North East and Entrust
The NES Programme provided enterprise support to help people from disadvantaged areas and groups to start-up in business. In the North East, the NES programme operated on a significant scale, with places for around 170 potential entrepreneurs each year. In partnership with Richardson Howarth, we undertook an action research project with a cohort of NES clients, to explore their experiences as they progressed on their journey towards starting up in business. Our research has been used to inform the development of the ‘Enterprise Framework’, One North East’s new policy to spearhead the promotion of enterprise in the North East.
